My Running Style is Flawed

So I’ve been doing regular exercise to try and get fitter. Whenever I’ve been on a health kick in the past I’ve meticulously recorded every detail of my exercise and diet, since I find that the numbers and graphs motivate me. I noticed that whenever I get bored recording the data I stop exercising, so on this kick I’m not recording any data.

I’m still motivated by numbers, so instead I’m just using a standard 6km loop from my house as my metric — I remember my fastest time for that, and regularly try and beat it.

Last week I briskly walked that loop in 46 minutes, and my heart-rate monitor told me I burned up 750 Calories in the process. I’m pretty happy with that.

Tonight I thought I’d put in a bit of extra effort and I’d jog the loop instead. So I set off at a blistering pace, made my way all the way around, and completed the loop in…. 48 minutes. And 800 Calories.

I guess all I can conclude from that is that my running style is horribly inefficient!
