First Anniversary Present

The Australia Day weekend was our first wedding anniversary, so we had a weekend away at some chalets half-way between Balingup and Nannup. It really was a great idea to get married on a long weekend!

On the way back home I gave Lana my anniversary present to her: a bench at Araluen Botanic Gardens with a plaque on it.

Anniversary Present

It was surprise to Lana, and I couldn’t have organised it better. We went up to Araluen “just to check it out”, and as we walked past these benches Lana started reading out the plaques. “Wait! That’s us! That’s today!”

The bench is under a new pergola that’s currently under construction, so the view isn’t too impressive just yet.

Half-finished pergola

I’m looking forward to going back when they’ve finished the pergola over the bench, it’ll be quite nice to sit there in the shade and look out at the view over the valley. I like the idea that this is our spot too — with our name on it — and our kids and grandkids will be able to come and sit in the same spot as us long after we’ve gone.

(There’s 3 of us in that photo — Lana is 12 weeks pregnant).
